AISO.Net Joins Hollywood Goes Green event panel discussion
Romoland, CA -- December 6, 2007 -- AISO.Net will join IBM in a panel discussion at the inaugural Hollywood Goes Green conference, which will take place Dec. 11-12 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The event will address environmental issues in entertainment and related industries, including Hollywood's role in reducing global warming.
AISO.Net CTO Phil Nail, will participate in an IBM-sponsored roundtable discussion of innovative technology solutions for green data centers. The 50-minute session, called "IBM Project Big Green Panel Discussion," will take place on Dec. 11 at 2:15 p.m. The event will also feature a video about AISO, IBM and green data centers.
In May IBM announced Project Big Green, a $1 billion annual commitment to increase the level of energy efficiency in IT. The plan is designed to help IBM and its clients sharply reduce data center energy consumption, transforming the world's business and public technology infrastructures into green data centers.
According to the Report to Congress on Server and Data Center Energy Efficiency by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (August 2007), data centers consumed about 60 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2006, roughly 1.5% of total U.S. electricity consumption. The energy consumption of servers and data centers doubled in the past five years and is expected to almost double again in the next five years to more than 100 billion kWh costing about $7.4 billion annually. IBM estimates that under Project Big Green, a 25,000-square-foot data center should be able to achieve a 42 percent energy savings, which could equate to 7,439 tons of carbon emissions saved per year.
"At AISO.Net we have made a 100% commitment to energy efficiency and environmental protection, so we are extremely honored to participate in this groundbreaking event," said Nail. "We are looking forward to a productive discussion about environmentally responsible data center techniques."
In March AISO.Net became the first public data center to join the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a non-profit organization of leaders from every sector of the building industry. AISO is currently seeking LEED Platinum certification for its Romoland, CA data center. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED(R)) Green Building Rating System(TM) is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
Other Project Big Green panelists include:
-- Rich Lechner, vice president, IT optimization, IBM Systems & Technology Group
-- Miles Kelly, Vice President of Marketing and Strategy, 365 Main
-- Dave Laux, global executive, games and interactive entertainment, IBM
-- Tom Burns, director, post-production infrastructure, Technicolor
-- Larry Kasanoff, CEO, Threshold Animation Studios
According to the conference Web site, Hollywood Goes Green is designed for any professional with ties to the entertainment industry who wants to learn how environmental strategies will create new business opportunities. The two-day event will include a number of speakers, demos, workshops, discussions and breakout sessions. Registration information and event details can be found at http://www.hollywoodgoesgreen.com
